Results indicate that the proposed approach can be considered an effective alternative to field visual inspection for revetment damage recognition along urban rivers because our method not only recovers the finely detailed surface of the revetment but also remarkably improves the accuracy of revetment damage recognition. A revetment with slope protection along urban rivers is selected to evaluate the performance of damage recognition. Then, damage recognition is conducted using a proposed operator, that is, a self-adaptive and multiscale gradient operator, which is designed to extract the damaged regions with different sizes in the slope intensity image of the revetment.

To quickly and accurately recover the finely detailed surface of a revetment, an object space-based dense matching approach, that is, region growing coupled with semi-global matching, is exploited to generate pixel-by-pixel dense point clouds for characterizing the signatures of revetment damage. In this study, an approach using dense point clouds derived from low-cost unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) photogrammetry is proposed to automatically and efficiently recognize the signatures of revetment damage. The all-embracing inspection of geometry structures of revetments along urban rivers using the conventional field visual inspection is technically complex and time-consuming. Conclusions: We concluded that, in general, the development of GIS open-source applications has increased in the last 10 years, especially GIS mobile applications, since the big data and Internet of Things (IoT) era, which was expected given the new advanced technologies available in every area, especially in GIS. A bibliometric analysis was performed using Web of Science database and VOSViewer software. In the second objective, we analyze the development of GIS open-source applications in the field of environmental sciences (with more focus on QGIS plugins) in the last 10 years and discuss the applicability and usability of these GIS solutions in different environmental domains.

Methods: In the first objective, we evaluate the publications regarding the development of GIS open-source geospatial software in the last 10 years, considering desktop, web GIS and mobile applications, so that we can analyze the impact of this type of application for different research areas. The main objectives of this paper are: (i) to provide an overview of 10 years (2010–2020) regarding the creation/development of GIS open-source applications and (ii) to evaluate the GIS open-source plugins for environmental science. We conduct an experiment in a sediment-retarding basinĬonsisting of dikes, bridges, and debris barriers, and explore some issues in infrastructure asset monitoring using mobile devices.īackground: The advent of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) has changed the way people think and interact with the world. Suitable for sabo facilities using UAV and terrestrial laser scanner. We develop a Web GIS application for field-based investigation with mobile devices. First, we propose an inspection flow suitable for field-based monitoring. Location-based investigation application as follows. In this paper, we propose and evaluate our Therefore, we focus on field-based investigation and inspection using mobile devices, and aim atĪssisting investigators in infrastructure asset monitoring with location-based applications. Often generate a three-dimensional (3D) geometrical model as a base map in management, it is not easy to acquire details of assetĪttributes in 3D measurement. Infrastructure asset management is a framework for achieving sustainable infrastructure.
